More Notes From Cowboy Camp
Notes From Cowboy Camp
1. Finally a Fight
Tight end Jackie Harris and Defensive End Ebenezer Eukuban fought at Wedneday's morning practice. Great! You have to have a few scuffles in camp. It can't be lovey dovey all the time.
It is hot, and the days are long here in Wichita Falls. Sooner or later the players get short with pateince and things boil over. This is football.
Now you hope that everything was settled right then and there. Hopefully Jackie and Ebenezer left it all right there on the field.
2. Autograph Alley If you ever come to a practice at Cowboys training camp you will see plenty, in fact, mobs of fans lining up for autographs after practice.
The players are very sweaty and tired after each practice. They just want to go inside the AC grab a drink and sit down. But, most of them sign items.
On Tuesday I witnessed Troy Aikman, Greg Ellis, Emmitt Smith, Dat Nguyen, and others taking their time to sign items for fans. More importantly, they make sure to sign for the disabled fans in a separate tent near the locker room.
I saw kids faces light up as Troy came by to sign their hats, jerseys, and pennants. Randall told me, "I always make sure I stop over here. Some of these kids just don't have the opportunities and it's just sad. It makes me wanna cry sometimes."
3. Rocket Looking Sharp
Michael Irvin was the main target for Troy. Now, it's looks like Rocket Ismail could be the man. Rocket is getting better with age and he still has all of his speed.
Another target that Aikman will be looking for is tight end Jackie Harris. David LaFleur is still not a first rate tight end. He'll make the tough catch and then botch three easy passes. I think Harris will be the starter by Week 4. The reason he left Tennessee was because Franck Wycheck was in front of him. It's was not going to change. LaFlop is the "starter" according to Coach Dave Campo, but that's just to keep him working hard. Harris will be the guy in when it counts.
