Q) C & N, I said in my e-mail yesterday that coaching would be paramount. So what was that all about when you sit down Nash and Dirk? Frankly, I am sick of all the praise for Nick in that you are making him out to be the only one with heart. Last night: Rebounds Nash 4 Van Exel 2 Assists Nash 7 Van Exel 5 3 GM-A Nash 3-7 43% Van Exel 1-5 20% total points Nash 20 in 32 minutes Van Exel 20 in 34 minutes So, I would say Nash's stats are better. You are right the when a team is putting on a clinic, it makes any team look bad. Hand it to the Kings. They certainly deserved that win. But, if you are REALLY a fan, you would not BOO your team or leave early. As far as I am concerned, those who did that, need not return to AAC. The team needs support, not fans who are all about themselves and their own gratification Linda Smith

 --RJ Stites, Dallas, TX

A) Linda, thanks for another email. Fans should have booed that sorry effort in Game 1 by the Mavericks.

The coaching is coming into question by a lot of Mavericks fans.

Nash hasn't been better than Nick in the postseason. Don Nelson's in trouble with the fans.

Q) Chuck, Newy HERE IS THE PROBLEM THE ATTITUDE. If you guys recall the problem started when Don Nelson was lobbying for a contract extension. At that time Nelson was so concerned about his coaching future that team members that he showered his team his doubt. Players should not be concerned with a coaches contract issues in the midst of the season. At this point Nelson wanted everybody to believe that were not as good as their record indicated, he kept stressing this to the point where the team began to believe they weren't as good because coach Nelson says so. I am here to tell you that you can develop a winning attitude by believing in what you are accomplishing and have accomplished at that point the team was trying to find it identity in a tough part of schedule and all I would here Nelson say SACREMENTO IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN US WE CAN'T BEAT THEM THEY ARE PLAYING GREAT BALL. Now this statement was made before the Mavericks were to face SAC. So once the big games come around the Mavericks are already underdogs because THEY DON'T EXPECT TO WIN' If DON NELSON KNOWS THE MAVERICKS COULDN'T BEAT THE KINGS WHY DIDN'T HE DO SOMETHING THIS PAST OFF SEASON SO THAT AT LEAST YOU CAN HAVE SOME CONFIDENCE IN HIS TEAM. Why should he get a contract extension he is partly responsible for the development of team. As a long time Mavs fan there has been nothing done this past off season to correct a problem that Nelson knew about. From Fred B. from Ft. Worth.

 --garbeau@comcast.net

A) I have always thought Don Nelson was very honest about how good his teams really were.

Why be down on him for telling the truth. You and I both know the Mavericks are not better than the Kings.

Would you rather listen to him lie about how they can win?

Nellie wanting a new deal is no different than Dusty Baker wanting a new deal last season with the Giants. Every coach wants a contract extension. Same with players.

Q) Newy, Do you see Don Nelson being the head coach of the Mavs next season? I thing the team right now is good, but its not what Mark Cuban wants. Nellie has a history of fielding teams like this, lights out scorers and no dominant presence inside. Who is out there that could come in and replace him besides Donnie? I think Mike Dunleavy would be a good replacement.

 --ctharkness@charter.net

A) Let's see how this series with the Kings ends. If it is a sweep or five really bad losses, it could mean trouble for Nelson. But remember, he still has three years left as the GM after this season.

Mike Dunleavy...maybe. Give me Paul Silas. He knows how to get the most out of guys. Look at what he did with underachievers like Eddie Jones, Derrick Coleman and Jamal Mashburn.

Q) Newy, Please go off today on another incredible performance by Raef! If I were Big Whistle, I'd put Raef and Shawn in street clothes for the game just so that I would not be tempted to stick them on the floor. If I flew helicopters (my profession), with the skill and expertise that those two play basketball, the evening news would be graced by a smoking hole in the ground. Bill in Forth Worth

 --chris@magicscraps.com

A) You know Bill, we will get some in depth reporting on Raef today during the 5 PM hour of the Big Show.

Great email. Keep the airwaves safe for us!!

Q) New Dawg.. you are absolutely right! If you're a Mavs fan, you're pretty much disappointed with what you saw last night. At first I was P.O.'d, but all I could do after that is shake my head. I couldn't even watch the entire game. It got well out of hand. Why work so hard to win 60 games and the first round, just to get swept in the 2nd round. I surely hope they do not get swept, but if they play like they did last night, it's over on Sunday night. I am just so disappointed!

 --wilsontke@hotmail.com

A) Amen brotha Dallas.

Q) Newy, I don't want to hear tomorrow that they were tired. Why were they tired? They were tired because they didn't win game 4, or 5, or 6 against the "Jailblazers". They are tired because Nelson basically only played 7 players in the first series which, by the way, means the other bench players who didn't play are likely to be rusty. Nelson can put a good team together, but he can't "close the deal". In fact, he can't coach in the playoffs. He has to go. The big 3 have to be disassembled. I feel like Cuban sold me an infomercial product...No wait, an infomercial product looks good on TV. I refuse to spend the hundreds of dollars at the AA arena that I usually spend about a dozen times a year until I get a better product. This Ferrari has a Yugo engine (no power, e-"motionless"). Cuban, please recall and rebuild. Until then, go Spurs. Kick that Laker butt since we won't be there next round. I said it before Game 7 of the last series. Kings in 5, maybe 4(if we make it). The way we're playing, we couldn't beat an eastern conference cellar dweller. Newy, thanks for the vent. Sincerely, Jared Morgan P.S. I didn't mention Raef or Bradley because they aren't worth mentioning. Quite frankly, they make me wanna' puke.

 --shannon.r.stanley@citigroup.com

A) Nice vent on your part.

Q) Whats up Dawg, First off I love the show, and one of the reasons why is because you and Coop keep it real, and tell it how it is. I don't think your bashing the Mavs at all. What do people think, your going to tell the listeners the Mavs are going to blowout the Kings. I love the Mavs, but it is very simple, the Kings are a better and much deeper team. The Mavs looked like they were playing there older brother tonight, the Kings made it look that easy. How do people not understand at this point, that the Mavs are not going to get past the second round until they either trade for or pick up a player in the offseason that can throw some elbows and play some D in the paint. The Mavs flat out cannot beat this team in a 7 game series this season, and if people can't see that, they might want to get there head checked, especially the people that think that all of a sudden Raef and Shawn are actually going to step it up a notch. The Kings will win this series in 4 or 5 games, and to the people that think that is bashing it's not, the Kings are just a better team. The Kings chose to upgrade in the offseason and the Mavs chose to add more of what they already had. Sorry for such a long E-mail, I just wanted to let you know that I personally think you and Coop are doing a great job, keep doing what your doing.

 --Owensd@pioneernrc.com

A) Thanks for getting my back. Chuck is also grateful.

Q) In an attempt to quiet the "bandwagon" critics here at work, I finally decided to give in a little and told them that I would root for the Mavs if they rooted for the Spurs. Even after I explained that Steve Nash is not going to even challenge Mike Bibby or Bobby Jackson this series. I am so fed up with hearing this whole "asterisk" championship thing. True, it was a sprint of a season, but the bottom line was, we beat who we had to, on the road and at home. I know the Mavs don't have a chance, and I tried calling in during yesterdays show to give my point of view but couldn't get through. What a waste of space the "Ivory Towers" are. I laughed yesterday when I heard one caller say he believed in Mark Cuban? Give me a break, he looks like the fat kid in class who just had his lunch stolen when they are losing. Before the Mavs can be considered a legitimate contender, the Big 3 is going to have to be broken up somehow. Is it possible that Jason Kidd can come back to the Mavs? Being a Die hard Spurs fan, I am praying to the basketball Gods above that we keep and invest in Tony Parker. I cant wait to hear how many calls you get today to argue your predications now. And as far as Asterisks go, why don't they put one by Steve Nash's "all-star" status. Because if it hadn't been for the fact that Don Nelson was the Western Conference All-Star coach, he never would have been on the all-star team to begin with. Spurs in 6 and Kings in a sweep. Thanks for the time, love your show! Go Spurs Go! Jerry

 --Owensd@pioneernrc.com

A) Jason Kidd is not coming back to the Mavericks. They can not afford him under the cap and I don't see a sign and trade with the Nets.

All your Spurs need to do is win a ring with the 82-game schedule and then you won't have to worry about Shaq and Phil Jackson calling your ring "bogus".
