Hi Newy, I was wondering what your take would be on the Mavs possibly acquiring Karl Malone in the offseason. By 2004 he should have the all time scoring record, which would be a great p.r. move for the team; and let's face it even though he's going to be 40 something if he's acquired he will still put up a significant amount of points and more importantly attack the boards and add to the leadership the Mavs desperately need to make that late playoff run for the NBA championship. I mean Utah thinks he's coming here but I haven't heard much about the Dallas sports writers perspective on the move.

I'd take P.J. Brown first. He doesn't need the basketball to be happy. He yokes ten boards a game.
Karl Malone wants the ball. We saw how Juwan Howard had to adjust to being the 4th option.
As far as leadership, I'll take Alonzo Mourning. Zo and PJ will save the day inside.

Hi Newy,
I love you show and I actually met you in person when we were both leaving at halftime during Atlanta Hawks game. I have heard comments about firing Nellie. I feel its just an act of stupidity to say that. What if Kings lose ? Does the media think Rick Adelman should be fired too. I am not a big Nellie fan but I think there is no great coach available out there right now for whom we need to fire Nellie. Nellie needs to be fired only if Phil Jackson is available.

Thanks for saying hello at the Mavericks game.
For those who hate Don Nelson I ask the question, "What is the bar? What is good enough?"
Can we remember what the franchise was in the 1990's. A joke. Nellie and his son came into Dallas and fixed a 10 year mess. They traded or drafted for all of the Big 3 and Nick Van Exel.
They went 60-20 this year. They have set franchise records in wins the past 2 seasons. They have EARNED the right to stay.
Phil Jackson wouldn't coach for Mark Cuban and this group doesn't have the superstar guy he loves to have on his teams.

Lets not jump the gun just yet people. Even with Chris Webber out, the Mavs still haven't taken over a game like they should have. Game 3 could have gone either way and Game 4 was a blowout. However, I am a Spurs fan who HATES the Mavs, and I will give them credit for what they have done, and that is, making this a SERIES. Wonder how long Nick can keep this up and if Nellie might consider starting him in place of Nash.

Jerry...Go Spurs Go!!!
I'm just clowning ya.
Nick Van Exel likes coming off the bench and should continue to do so. When you get to the biggest ball of the year, you dance with who brung ya!
This team has already been better in 4 games against the Kings than they were last year.

I still believe the Mavs will win the series, unless Nick keeps refusing to give Dirk the ball in the fourth quarter instead of taking the shots himself.
Please, Nick, if you are listening, keep rotating the ball to the open man. When Dirk has that few of touches, he looses too much rhythm. I thought Dirk looked visibly "ticked" even on Saturday night that he was not getting the ball in the fourth quarter.
When I saw Dirk "ask" for the ball last night, and Nick just ignored him, I got sick to my stomach. We can all praise him for bringing the heart and drive and scoring to the series, but we will probably all be blaming him if we loose the series, because, frankly he is too selfish with the ball.

Nick Van Exel has been a godsend to this team. The only reason they have a chance against the Kings is because Nick told Nellie and the team to stop respecting Sacramento so much.

Chuck needs to look at a box score on the Mavs wins/losses. Mavs/Kings.
Mavs Loss- 83-99 (37.4% vs 44.4%)
Mavs Win - 141-137 (48.2% vs 48.1% )
Mavs Win - 132-110 (51.5% vs 46.8%)
Mavs Loss - 113-124 ( 46.5% vs 55.0%)
In other words both teams have to shoot well to win it. Mavs during the
regular season shot 45.3 %. The kings shot 46.4. I don't see how you
make a correlation ONLY based on a jump shooting team. It looks like if
the Mavs shoot their average they win. The kings also have to shoot their
average or above.
It's not traditional, but it's not ONLY jumpshooting either.

Newy,
While you're under there, could you check the transmission and brakes?
And DO NOT come back to the other side. You and Thor keep the negatives
flowing -- might just push them to some more heroics.

I'm not jumping on MFFL. But I'm not going to sit here and think they don't have a legit chance because they do. I didn't think so before.

I ENJOY YOUR SHOW. I WILL HOWEVER EXPECT TO HEAR YOU AND YOUR PARTNER ADMIT ON THE AIR THAT YOU WERE WRONG!! ABOUT HOW WELL THE MAV'S WOULD DO IN THIS SERIES. SO WHEN I LISTEN TO YOUR SHOW MONDAY (NO MATTER WHAT THEY DO TONIGHT) I EXPECT YOU TO SAY" I WAS WRONG AND ALL THOSE MAV'S FANS WHO SUPPORTED THE MAV'S AND STAYED WITH THEM WERE RIGHT."
KENT HARTSOE
P.S. DON'T BE A WINNIE AND TRY TO GIVE EXCUSES FOR WHY YOU WERE WRONG!!!

Q)
Hey Newy!!!
I remember that during the Blazers series, people were giving Nash a lot
of... misfortune.
People were saying he was tired, didn't have what it takes in the playoffs,
and stuff like that.
Why hasn't anyone given Nash some credit for finding his way back to his
playing level. Because all he was in was a slump.
Thanks

Steve has been ten times better in the Kings series vs. the Portland series. Here is the problem. Nick Van Exel has been better. Dirk Nowitzki has been better so it is easy to see why Steve Nash has not gotten his props.
