Q) Hey Newy I know that you think Raef should be run out of town but he saved us last night while playing with five fouls he did pretty good and I know you say he is good for at least one game in a series well I for one am glad it was last night he's given your prediction a chance to come true by the way I could be wrong but it looks like Mike's hamstring has worked its way out. As usual I am at work so don't front on me like you do the other people who's up and not at work.

A) Here's a question for you. Is Raef LaFrentz still worth 70 million dollars? Is he still the best player you got in the Nuggets trade. Both answers are no.

The guy did help them last night. I'm sorry, you want credit for a guy staying in the game a helping his team stay alive in the playoffs? That's what a guy getting 70 million SHOULD DO!!! Come on Jimmy raise you standards.

Mike Finley is seeing the ball more since Dirk Nowitzki is out. He was playing like a guy making 102 million dollars. Finster was clutch in Game 5.

The Spurs are choke artists. The Nets will have a better chance at beating the Spurs than the Mavericks in the Finals. The Spurs can't hold on to a 4th quarter lead. They have blown 5 of them in the postseason.

Q) Why are you guys in such a hurry to run Raif out of town? Do you understand how hard it is to find a seven footer with the skill set of Lafrentz? The Mavs are in desperate need of size, and you two are willing to toss out Raif as if there are twenty other seven footers the Mavs can go get. I am well aware of his shortcomings, but your discussion should be, how can Nellie modify his system to make Raif fit, to make Raif more effective. If Nellie is the coach I think he is, that is what he will do. You don't toss out seven footers who can play, and Raif can play the game. Raif is a seven footer with unique skills, you work with him, you don't prematurely toss him out. Let's remember that Raif is also very young. Mike in Plano

A) It's Raef. R-A-E-F.

And he's terrible. End of story.

Q) Chuck/Newy, Just got back from Game 3 at the AAC. Help me out here. Nash is having a horrendous 3rd quarter. He's throwing the ball away, not penetrating, not scoring, and getting EATEN ALIVE by Tony Parker at the other end. Why is god's name wouldn't Nellie pull him in favor of Raja Bell? Or do something to switch up the defensive match-up? Parker's run single handedly brought the Spurs back from a 10-11 point deficit. Raja had a great first half -- shot 60% and played good defense. Everybody around me saw what was going on -- why wouldn't Nellie? Thanks, Matt

 --sdave_69@hotmail.com

A) He had 9 players. You put your best out there. If you had a chance to win it would be with Steve Nash playing well. He's one of your all stars so maybe that's why Nellie stayed with him.

Q) What happened to Antoine Rigaudeau? Wasn't there a lot of hype around him at first? Nobody mentions his name now. I see that he is still on the team. Thanks!

 --thegoodson@go.com

A) He was brought to the league too fast. He just couldn't adapt to the pace of the NBA.

I don't expect him back.

Thanks Nicole.

Q) I think I understand the Larry Bird rule which enables a team to pay a free agent player on its roster much more than an outside team could pay. However, I recall that LA paid Shaq a huge contract in order to "steal" him from the Magic. With that in mind, I have two questions. First, what circumstances enabled the Lakers to make that move/prevented the Magic from keeping Shaq? Second, what prevents a team from making a similar move to lure a big name player like Jermaine O'Neal from the Pacers? Is that even a viable thought for the Mavericks? Thanks for the info. Scott in Coyote Ridge

 --basil mitchell, mesquite, TX

A) How do you "steal" a free agent? Free agent means the player can deal with any team.

The Orlando Magic said they would not pay Shaq O'Neal more than 115 million. The fans in a Orlando Sentinel poll said the team shouldn't pay him more than that.

Jerry West cleared out cap space and paid him 120 million dollars.

If a team has cap space they can sign a player and not have to compensate his former team. The Spurs will have cap space and they could sign Jermaine O'Neal or Jason Kidd if they wanted to. Most teams like Dallas are capped out.

The Mavericks could only get him if they complete a sign and trade.

Q) Hey Newy, Please do not give me the same excuses like Chuck. I will call today's show and let me tell you something if the Mavs can play with patience with or without Dirk Dallas can do the impossible. Chuck is remaining me of when Jerry Jones took over the Cowboys organization and then keep on doubting on all of the Dallas teams. Thanks, Magic Man '77

 --Zachary Hartman, Anna, TX

A) We will be there at 3PM.

Q) Newy, Dirk or no Dirk, the Mavs can't beat SA 3 in a row. I agree with Magic Johnson's comments last night, the Mavs will remain a good regular season team until a get inside help. I had the chance to meet Magic Saturday night, a true gentlemen. Is Nellie going to return now, I don't think so? Where does Cuban look for a new coach & inside play?

 --robert.garza@medisend.org

A) Magic has worst winning percentage of any Laker coach in history.

Don Nelson is gonna be back. He has earned that.

The free agents out there who play inside are P. J. Brown, Alonzo Mourning, Karl Malone, Elden Campbell, Jermaine O'Neal, Juwan Howard, and Brad Miller.

Q) Newy what's the deal with the Mavs digging themselves into holes every game? I know they were on the road and the officiating wasn't great but they still should of been better than that. They had that problem throughout the series with Sacramento and it looks like that's going to continue. Are they so confident in their ability to come back in a game that they just decide to wait until the fourth quarter to start playing?

 --Rich Brown, denison, TX

A) I asked Donnie Nelson the same thing. They have no real answers. The players have to make it a priority.

We saw the Mavericks come out strong in Game 4 to start the 1st quarter. It end at 18-18. But they still didn't have enough to beat the Spurs.
