Q) Newy, A good piece of reading and as a person not in Parcells's camp of support, will agree it's time to face the facts of another long line of mistakes by Jones. Once the team in place when he ran off Jimmy Jones began to dissipate, things for sure went south. However, your lone reference to Quincy Carter deserves some attention. He was replaced by two inadequate quarterbacks no question, but he was about to lend himself to the final slide, so no answer in him either. By the way, where is Quincy? Thanks, Dennis Smyers

 --dsmyers@ev1.net

A) Last I heard, Quincy had a applied for a job at 24 Hour Fitness in Carrollton. He turned down the job because they wanted him to work full time. Quincy only wanted part time hours.

He still throws on a lot of days to guys trying to stay in shape.

After striking out with the Jets, I don't think we'll see Quincy Carter in the NFL again.

Q) Favre is a turnover machine. According to Parcells, he wants his offense to REDUCE their turnovers. Favre is older than Bledsoe and his best days are behind him. What sense would it make to dump one future hall of famer in Bledsoe for an older future hall of famer in Favre. Favre is no longer a star, and with respect to speed that aspect of his game has greatly diminished. Bledsoe had the second most passing yards in Cowboy history last year. Philly and Jax aren't the easiest places to win football games. Cowboy fans need to stop this "sky is falling" mentality and rally behind Drew Bledsoe.....the best option for this football team.

 --adfurrer@yahoo.com

A) Thanks for the email,

Drew Bledsoe will not make the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Sorry, his stats are nice but no way is he a Hall of Famer.

Favre is just a better option than Bledsoe. He has warts in his game, but I know he could make more plays for Dallas than Bledsoe.

The trade deadline is over and no deal was made so we'll never know what Brett could have done for the Cowboys.

Bledsoe is a nice quarterback, but he is not a championship QB.

Q) Remember New Year's Day in 1996? Then Nebraska running back Lawrence Phillips had been suspended several games for beating up his girlfriend and dragging her down a flight of stairs by her hair. What kind of sleaze bag does that? Yet the U of Nebraska fans implored then head coach Tom Osbourne to lift the suspension in time for the Orange Bowl. Osbourne did just that, claiming that Phillips was sorry for what he'd done and the game would do him some good. Nebraska fans cheered wildly for Phillips. Next it was the St. Louis Ram fans turn to cheer Phillips when he was a #1 draft pick. Pundits claimed that Midwestern attitudes would forgive Phillips for his past transgressions. Well, they did until Phillips showed he wasn't NFL material. Kenny Rogers has been on his best behavior in Detroit. Maybe he's taken anger management to heart or maybe he's just pretending. Abusive types can be remarkably charismatic in public. Remember O.J.? Who'd have guessed that this guy who smiled so easily regularly beat up women? None of that really matters to sports fans. They don't care if their sports hero is a drug addict, a womanizer, a serial rapist. Detroit fans will be no different. If Rogers pitches in the Series the way he did in the ALDS and the ALCS, Detroit fans won't care if he tortures kittens, abuses children, and beats his wife, to say nothing of attacking photographers and reporters.

A) Tom,

I don't really give to hoots about Mr. Phillips. He was a bad guy in college and continued to be a bad guy in the NFL and out of pro football. You can go there if you want, but that is not apart of my take on Kenny Rogers.

Rogers showed me he was a coward by going after an innocent, and much smaller man I might add because he was mad at Star-Telegram writers, Randy Galloway, Jim Reeves and the Rangers for not giving him an contract extension.

That act made him a chump and that is what I continue to see him as.

Tigers fans just see wins. I see a weak minded guy who trying to repair his national image. I'm not buying it. I never will.

Q) I am so tired of you blithering southern chaw chewing idiots bashing poor drew. do you have any idea what he has done. never mind winning the 2001 AFC championship game and having some of the historically most prolific passing numbers, but look at drew's 94 season when he took a team from 3-6 to 10-6 and the playoffs, including an incredible 20-0 comeback against Minnestota in which in which the pats won in OT 26-20 after Parcells threw the entire second half and bledsoe went what are still NFL records 45-70 to win the game. this is a competitor and a winner, who has never had people in front of him to protect him. his best NE receiver other than Glenn was probably vincent brisby. when he went to Buffalo and had Moulds and Price he went wild. he hasn't had a losing season in three years. appreciate you have one of the best pure passers in the NFL and enjoy him. protect him and we will win the superbowl together. the only time drew had a stud receiver was in BUF with Moulds, just look at his numbers. the TO production is coming. nothing is easier than heaping on poor drew, do your research, learn the facts, and get your head out of your ass.

 --blackwoodlaw@gmail.com

A) Drew is past his prime. The line is OK, but he's not the 1995 Drew Bledsoe. He makes too many mistakes and will never win a Super Bowl as a starter.

Personally, I like the guy a lot and he's had a very nice run, but he's not a difference maker like he used to be. He's a bus driver.

New England moved on just fine. And since you love stats so much, JP Losman has a higher QB rating so maybe Buffalo was right to move on from Bledsoe as well. Losman has a bad line, but more passing yards, and less INT's.

Maybe if you had you head out of his ass, you'd understand.

Bledsoe had Peerless Price and Moulds in Buffalo. He hasn't sniffed the playoffs since Belichick traded him away. Talent is all around him in Dallas. No more excuse please. McNabb plays will lesser talent and wins.

Good defenses with speed rushers will always pose a problem for Bledsoe. He's got no speed to make the first guy miss and holds on to the football far too long.

Bledsoe can beat the lesser teams, elite ones give him trouble. Nice guy, just not the guy to win a title with.

Q) Newy, I totally agree with your Column on the Rangers. I went back & watched the Cowboys game in Philly. They can win with Drew but it means they have to limit Drew's passes per game. Run Julius Jones more. He's 5th in the NFL in Rushing and the guys ahead of him have 20-30 more carries a game. They need to put Drew in the Shotgun on Blitz down & 10. Mainly they have to run the ball more. They got away from that in Philly. I'm losing my grip with Parcells. This is not the same guy who coached the 80's Giants.

 --Charles Hill, Dallas, TX

A) We all have questions and solutions after a loss.

The Cowboys have lost to Philly and Jacksonville on the road. Both clubs are pretty darn good and both should make the playoffs.

I wouldn't hit the panic button just yet. They is a lot of football to be played.

Q) Newy, dawg, brotha man. I'm going to need a little space here...Was Owens correct in getting his offensive line motivated or a good chastising to get their act together? I recall a certain receiver, who used get in the faces of his O-Line to them going...Who was it? Michael Irvin. Newy, regardless of Owens baggage, he is still a competitor and last checked, no fan of the Cowboys or any team likes to lose. So having said that, Why in H-E-double hockey sticks is Bledsoe's hand still under center?

 --JC Lewis, Tustin, CA

A) At the end of the day, Michael Irvin was always about the Cowboys. He was about winning. Irvin had a track record of that from his days at Miami.

Jimmy Johnson knew what was in Irvin heart and allowed him to be the team leader for the Cowboys he was at the U.

Now T.O. is no Michael Irvin when it comes to being a team leader.

His past indicates one of a me first attitude filled with nothing but selfish interests. That's why he gets no benefits of the doubt when it comes to sideline behavior.

Bledsoe is the QB because Bill Parcells believes in him. I don't expect him to be the Cowboys signal caller in 2007.

Q) Newy, Enjoyed the Saturday column. I am not a season ticket holder, so I don't have to make a decision about renewing, but feel your pain. Buck has paid the price for a less than stellar year. One complaint we keep hearing is discontent in the locker room and that leads to the implication that some are not playing up to their potential because of unhappiness. If any of these guys gave less than 100 percent then you have someone with questionable character and integrity. Who needs such people who probably have less than top talent to begin with. It would be interested in knowing who the unhappy people are that keep talking to the media. When you are staffing with pitchers who were dropped by other teams or people who got lost trying to reach another team you probably won't have a winner. Trades didn't do a lot for the Rangers and they now stand to loose what was supposed to be keys in Eaton and Lee. If the Rangers start out low balling their free agents then look for them to go elsewhere because of displeasure. My impression is Tom Hicks keeps wanting to bet five bucks in a 10 dollar game and if the product is so bad it loses its supporters, just raise the price so you don't lose money. Have a good day. A) Taylor,

Thanks for your thoughts.

Q) Newy, I enjoy your sports work on TV and for the FWST. I very much agree with your column in the Saturday paper in which you place the blame for the Rangers troubles where it belongs - Tom Hicks. Keep up the good work. I have written a column on the Rangers for a national dot com for the last three years. I covered some of the same issues in my last column. Link below. Take care, Blair Lybbert

A) Amen Blair. Amen
