Q) Mr. Scruggs, You are one of a very very few in the media that is willing to say something negative about Parcells. I appreciate you stepping forward. Not many will take him to task on his overall 34-32 record with no playoff wins at Dallas. They act like God himself could do no better as coach of the team and whatever the final record is, it could not have been bettered by another other coach on the planet. I was extremely upset with the signing on Terrell Owens last March on the heels of a disastrous ending to the 2005-06 season. Not just the fact you bring such a classless player to the Cowboys, but you give him so much money as well. Money that is sorely needed at other positions. I also don't understand why they could not have worked out some type of deal with Sean Payton to take over as head coach when Parcells left. Like your article says though, Parcells is going to let things hang in the balance every year. Maybe they made a play for Payton but he wanted a definite time or couldn't even wait one more year. Whatever the case, look what he has done in one year at New Orleans...amazing. Dallas has a load of talent but doesn't seem to utilize it half as much as the Saints do with theirs. -Justin Lexington, KY

 --justinl90@hotmail.com

A) Nobody knew Sean Payton would be this good. Jerry Jones couldn't have given him an agreement because Parcells never let the guy show his goods.

Parcells wants to control everything...and he can't.

Maybe Parcells will have a decision this week.

Q) Why blame Romo with the loss. If they make the field goal Cowboys are only up by two points with a minute and a half to play. Plenty of time for Seattle to score a field goal and win. The game was lost five minutes earlier when after a great defensive stop by the cowboys at the two yard line, our OFFENSIVE coach elects to go for a pass on the first down and we know the results. The safety allowed Seattle to get eight points and the lead even though they missed the two point try. Romo completed the pass to Glen which he fumbled. I do not fault Glen. That should have been three running plays and if you don't make a first down kick and let the defense hold. At worst they would have scored and kicked an extra point. At that point it would have been 20 to 20. Douglas Williams Frisco, Texas

 --DougW@THGC.com

A) Where should the blame go? If Romo runs the ball in for a touchdown we would have called him a hero.

It sounds harsh, but in sports we have heroes and we have goats. Tony Romo was the goat for that playoff loss in Seattle.

Romo will have nine months to relive a bad play, but he'll get another chance to be a hero in the fall.

Q) I've been a Ranger fan since they were the expansion Senators in 1961. They have never won. Never. They've gotten in the play-offs twice now and gotten clobbered by the Yankees in the first round. They didn't get Barry Zito, but I agree he was too pricey. They didn't spend a hundred million on Carlos Lee. But doesn't that give them a hundred million to go out and make some trades or buy some other pitching? Love your casts, Newy. Jim Bufkins

 --Jmbufkins@aol.com

A) Jim,

If it were only that easy. Here's the question. With Barry Zito now pitching for the Giants, who is worth 80 million dollars? Name a pitcher still on the market worth that money.

Nobody.

The Rangers should be done spending, outside of the Mark Mulder decision which won't be a huge deal.

The club was smart not to give Carlos Lee 100 million. The Zito deal was too long. Better to save those dollars for this July and the trade deadline or in the winter when they will have to obtain a long term centerfielder.

Q) You really need to relax with all this Romo is great crap and Bledsoe stinks. You wind up labeling people something they are not. Romo is not a savior as evidenced by the fact he has only played one good defense which would be carolina. Bledsoe is not bad like you would like us to believe. The fact is the media needs stories and drama. In reality it is the teams fault for not identifying what works well with their respective qb's. Bledsoe is a standard drop back passer, give him time and he wil pick you apart. Now not to put bledsoe into a higher level than he is (just above average) manning and brady other standard drop back passers play horribly when they are pressured or hit. It is the name of the game. That simple. No qb is great and can change the game the way the media will lead the typical fan (fanatics) to believe. Football is a TEAM game bttom line.Get off bledsoes back and get off the romo high.

 --JimandNoya@aol.com

A) Bledsoe has been dumped by two coaches who will end up in the Hall of Fame.

Bill Belichick went with Tom Brady and won 3 Super Bowls in New England.

Bill Parcells was 3-3 during the 2006 season, benched Bledsoe and Tony Romo takes his team to the playoffs, something Bledsoe didn't do as a starter in Dallas.

It speaks to volumes about how two men who've combined to win five Super Bowls as head coaches moved on without Bledsoe and both men were proven right.

Bledsoe has had time and still made dumb decisions with the football, which is why he is watching and not playing. Remember the goal line pick against Philly this year? Go back to the 2005 Seattle game he lost with a pick at the end of the game.

As for your "Romo only played against one good defense" line, you neglect to say he lead the team on the road, as underdogs, to a 35-14 win over Carolina which turned the season around.

Oh yeah, the guy made the Pro Bowl and didn't start the first six games of the season, that should tell you what the other players and coaches in the league think about what Romo meant to the Cowboys.

Here's another damning statement about Drew Bledsoe's leadership, we've now seen Brady and Romo come off the bench with no prior NFL experience to take teams to places Bledsoe couldn't. A Super Bowl victory for New England and a playoff berth for Parcells Cowboys.

Let's see if Bledsoe is named starting quarterback to start the season in 2006 for a team. I don't think that will happen. He's had a nice career but he's not a difference maker. Romo is.

Q) I was reading your story on Romo silencing the doubters and expected to read alot more that you wrote, more than half was hate on T.O... Guinness, you lured me to your T.O. hatred. You threw the bait out there, the story and subject is Romo, get readers than shove down their throats your hate toward another player.. Genius.. Before you go on your tirade and defending yourself, I enjoyed you on 103.3 ESPN now they have that pet of Galloway who gave her a cute nickname that does not work-"hate" I would call her "whatever"..anyway, since you left, I really don't enjoy ESPN radio anymore you and Brian would crack me up every morning..

 --robtrev2000@yahoo.com

A) A young Jedi is learning the ways of the NewDawg.

I don't hate T.O. on a personal level. The guy is a not a bad person, he just plays the victim too much for me.

He's a tremendous on the field talent, if he didn't create some of his problems he'd be in the Pro Bowl.

ESPN radio was fun....it served its purpose. These days I like sleeping in when my little kids allow me.

Happy Holidays

Q) Dear Mr. Scruggs, Right on, in Saturday morning's paper. Thank you one more time for telling it as you see it...and most probably is. W. A. "Buck" Hofmann Springtown, Tx.

A) As we like to say here at Newdawg.com, "Right on Time!"

Q) Great writing, Newy- you should be a print journalist. Your closing line " Or maybe it's the coaches and players in the NFL saying to Owens, if you don't respect us, we won't respect you" is the best piece of writing I've seen in this area of the country in a long time. I'm a big fan of T.O.s, so this is quite a compliment for you. Great writing! The only thing in your story that almost made me puke was the line "I won't even go into his spat with coaches like Steve Mariucci, Andy Reid and Todd Haley." Todd Haley does not deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence wit a great coach, Reid, and a good coach, Mariucci. Haley has mishandled Owens. But his biggest failing is as a human being, and in his ridiculous lawsuit against McDonalds. Jones should fire him for this! It makes me burn when anyone tries to use the courts to become rich. If Haley was asking for 10 thousand dollars, fine. But 1.7 million? Haley is a real sleaze of a guy. I would not want to be associated with such low character if I were the Cowboys. Good luck to you, Newy, and Happy Holidays, Michael Sampson www.michaelsampson.com

 --michaelrsampson@mac.com

A) Thanks for the nice words. Have a great holiday as well, Michael.

Q) Since the cows seem to have righted the ship, I have turned my attention to the Rangers. Do you think they are done making moves, or are there other moves to be made for the upcoming season? Danny

 --danny.sherry@sbcglobal.net

A) Oh Danny boy!!

The Rangers have a bunch of moves to make. I know fans think they haven't done well because it seems like so many of their players are being raided.

I know this. Adam Eaton, Gary Matthews, Jr; Carlos Lee, and Mark Derosa were given contracts I would have never paid them if I were Jon Daniels.

You may not see Barry Zito come to Arlington, but they will find some pitchers who are capable and we may even see a trade. Daniels likes to use the phrase, "moving parts" and I think that's what is going on right now.

Before I would have given Matthews 50 million or Lee 100 million I'd go get some pitchers with that loot. That is what I expect.
